At On Target Financial Planning, we help individuals and couples prepare for retirement with practical, personalized financial guidance.
Our focus is on helping tech-savvy do-it-yourselfers, pre-retirees, and retirees better understand their financial picture, evaluate important decisions, and create a retirement strategy designed around their goals.
Retirement planning is not just about investments. It involves taxes, income planning, Social Security, Medicare, healthcare costs, estate considerations, cash flow, and lifestyle decisions. Our goal is to help bring those pieces together into one organized plan.
We believe good financial planning should be clear, useful, and approachable — not overwhelming. Think of it as having a good yardage book before stepping up to the next shot.
On Target Financial Planning specializes in working with people who want to be involved in their financial lives.
Many of our clients are do-it-yourselfers at heart. They may already manage their own investments, track their finances, use online tools, or enjoy learning about retirement planning. However, they also recognize the value of professional guidance, tax-smart insight, and financial planning software to help make better decisions.
We are especially well-suited for:
Tech-savvy DIYers who want access to leading financial planning software
Pre-retirees who want to know if they are on track for retirement
Retirees who want help organizing income, taxes, and withdrawals
Individuals and couples who want professional guidance without a traditional investment-management-only relationship
Clients who value tax planning as part of the retirement planning process
Golfers who appreciate a good strategy, a clear target, and a practical game plan
Our clients want clarity. They want to understand their options. They want to make informed decisions without unnecessary complexity.
On Target Financial Planning helps clients prepare for retirement by combining financial planning, CPA-level tax insight, and technology-driven tools.
We help clients evaluate key retirement planning decisions, including:
Retirement income planning
Tax-smart withdrawal strategies
Roth conversion opportunities
Social Security timing
Medicare planning considerations
Investment allocation and risk tolerance
Budgeting and cash flow
Net worth tracking
Long-term retirement projections
Goal planning and scenario analysis
Our planning process is designed to help clients organize their financial lives, understand where they stand, and create a strategy to move forward with confidence.
We offer flexible service models, including a Do-It-Yourself planning option for those who want to leverage financial planning software with professional guidance, as well as more comprehensive planning options for clients who prefer deeper support.
Whether you want to manage much of the process yourself or work more closely with an advisor, our goal is the same: to help you stay on target.
Taxes can have a major impact on retirement planning. Decisions about withdrawals, Roth conversions, Social Security, Medicare premiums, investment gains, and required minimum distributions can all affect your long-term plan.
Because On Target Financial Planning is led by a CPA with a master’s degree in taxation, tax planning is not treated as an afterthought. It is built into the planning conversation.
The goal is not just to help clients retire, but to help them retire with a thoughtful strategy for managing taxes over time.
Many people want financial guidance but do not necessarily want to hand over every decision.
Our DIY planning model was created for clients who want to stay actively involved while using professional-grade financial planning software and guidance. This approach allows clients to organize their financial information, review planning scenarios, track progress, and make more informed decisions.
It is designed for people who enjoy having control of their financial picture but still want a knowledgeable guide nearby when the course gets tricky.
Technology can make financial planning more interactive, visual, and useful.
We help clients leverage planning tools to better understand their retirement projections, cash flow, tax picture, investment assumptions, and long-term goals. Instead of relying only on static reports, clients can see how different decisions may affect their plan over time.
This helps turn retirement planning from a one-time document into an ongoing decision-making process.
At On Target Financial Planning, you may notice a golf theme throughout our website, service model, and educational content.
That is intentional.
Golf and retirement planning have a lot in common. Both require preparation, patience, discipline, flexibility, and smart decision-making. You need to know the course, understand the hazards, select the right club, and adjust when conditions change.
Our golf-inspired approach is designed to make retirement planning more relatable and approachable.
You do not need to be a golfer to work with us — but if you are, we already have something in common on the first tee.
Bob Hackett is the founder of On Target Financial Planning.
Bob is a CPA and is pursuing the PFS, or Personal Financial Specialist, designation. He also holds a master’s degree in taxation. His professional background combines tax planning, financial planning, technology, and business experience.
Bob enjoys helping people use technology to make better financial decisions. That interest was one of the key drivers behind the firm’s DIY planning model. He believes many clients are capable of playing an active role in their financial lives when they have the right tools, guidance, and strategy.
Bob’s planning philosophy is practical and personal. He wants clients to understand their financial picture, feel more confident about their decisions, and have a clear plan for retirement.
When he is not working, Bob enjoys sports, especially golf. His favorite golf memory is making a hole-in-one at Penn Oaks Golf Club on October 4, 2018.
From 2003 to 2015, Bob was also the lead coordinator of Fight from the Fairway, a golf tournament fundraiser supporting breast cancer awareness. The event raised more than $400,000, and Bob hopes to relaunch it in 2026.
We believe retirement planning should be:
A good financial plan should help you make real decisions. It should not sit in a drawer or feel like a complicated report filled with jargon.
Retirement looks different for everyone. Your plan should reflect your goals, lifestyle, family, values, and comfort level.
Taxes can meaningfully affect retirement income and long-term wealth. Planning should consider tax consequences before major decisions are made.
Modern planning tools can help clients better understand their financial picture and test different scenarios.
Life changes. Markets change. Tax laws change. Your retirement plan should be reviewed and adjusted over time.
In golf terms, retirement planning is not one perfect swing. It is course management.
The name On Target Financial Planning reflects our core belief: financial planning should help clients aim clearly, make thoughtful decisions, and move toward their goals with confidence.
We help clients identify their target, understand the distance, evaluate the hazards, and choose a strategy that fits their situation.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is progress, clarity, and better decision-making.
Whether you are a tech-savvy DIYer, approaching retirement, already retired, or simply looking for a clearer financial direction, On Target Financial Planning can help you organize your next steps.
Our goal is to help you understand where you stand today, where you want to go, and what actions may help you get there.
Let’s build a practical retirement game plan designed to keep your future on target.
